Facebook Messenger app has been revamped with a new focus on simplicity
- Facebook has announced they are rolling out an updated version of their Messenger app
- The updated version will include:
- only three explorer tabs, rather than 9
- Customize chat bubbles via a color gradient
- The conversations tab to be placed in the centre of the app
- The people tab will now allow users to see who else is online and watch stories
- The discover tab now allows users to play instant games, connect with businesses and catch up on news articles

Facebook introduces app retention ad optimisation
- The feature aims to re-engage users who have downloaded an app and then stopped using it after a period of time
- Research shows that 10-12% of app users continue using seven days after downloading. This number drops to 4-5% thirty days after downloading.
- Publishers can use the ‘app install ad campaign’ to retarget people who will likely return to the app

Facebook announces a crackdown on bad user experiences and misinformation
- Facebook has announced they are cracking down on low-quality user experiences
- Through an update rollout, users will see fewer posts ads that link to what Facebook considers to be ‘low-quality web pages’.
- These posts will appear further down in people’s feeds, and may not be eligible to be an ad
- This is intended to make way for more informative content
- Research conducted by Stanford University and NYU (among others) shows that Facebook’s efforts so far to minimise the spread of false information is working

Instagram group video chat now allows up to six participants
- It seems Instagram’s group video chat must be a popular feature as they have now upped the maximum participants to six, as reported by Social Media Today
- The feature use to only allow up to four participants, however, Instagram seems to be embracing the group video chat trend that is popular amongst younger Instagram users

Facebook Attribution now available in Facebook’s Ads Manager
- The new tool is free to use and will help marketers cross report between their Facebook, Messenger and Instagram ads
- The insights will help business owners better understand their customer’s actions so they can tailor campaigns to the platform they are running it on
